Security Company for the SVRA
On the 26th May 2009, the Strubensvalley Residents Associations had a meeting with the residents of Strubensvalley and parts of Wilgeheuwel to present security company options for the area with the objective of bringing down neighbourhood crime. Approximately 30 residents attended, along with Ward Councillor Mike Tonkin, and Sector 4 Community Policing Forum Chairperson Gretchen van der Berg.

Over the past 7 months the SVRA have been researching what would be the best security company option for the area. Three options were presented to the community, and when the ‘pros & cons’ were weighed up, the preferred option was Proactive Crime Mitigation. Urban Threat Management www.urbanthreat.co.za was the preferred service provider. The entire meeting voted in favour of this option. The areas that we would request them to cover are two, firstly the bottom portion of Strubensvalley (between Christiaan DeWet, Krugerrand, Sovereign and Hendrik Potgieter), and the top portion in Wilgeheuwel (between Mozart, Sovereign, Krediet, Tauber, Muntstuk). To make this affordable we will need a minimum of 100 paying members from each of these two areas, who will then pay R140/month. The more members we have the cheaper it will become, and we hope to have this down to a R100/month as soon as possible. But recruiting members will be every body’s job, and if one member recruits one new member, this can be down very quickly. It is in every body’s best interest to recruit new members as it will save us all money.

We need to contract this UTM to begin on the 1st July and we need to raise the first month’s instalment in June, so we cannot sit on this any longer. Please complete and fax us your signed membership form by Monday 1st June so that we can know if we will have enough people to get this started. We will then email and let you know what your first month’s instalment will be. Remember this should reduce each month as we recruit new members, but that will be up to you.
